Heather Blacklock is a Balladong, Noongar woman from Western Australia, who now lives in Brisbane, Queensland. Heather was born in 1965 in the Avon Valley town of Beverley, 130 km's south east of Perth.

Heather explores aspects of her family's past through many of her paintings. The Native Title Act impacted heavily on the Noongar people and their country and Heather's family history is part of what we now refer to as the Stolen Generation. Heather is very focused on looking at the good constructive elements of the past and tries to keep those elements alive for the betterment of her culture.

Many of Heather's works are inspired by stories told by her Grandfather, Angus Wallam a well known respected Elder and author. Through the rich language of story-telling Heather has articulately transposed the expression of those stories into beautifully orchestrated rhythmic patterns of repetitive marks using ochre coloured acrylics with modeling compound capturing the essence of each story and part of Heather’s cultural ties.

Heather's fundamental belief is "The young people might not get a chance to go and fish or camp out or set fish traps or paint with ochre, but if we keep the stories alive, they can at least share in the rich cultural heritage we all have inside of us."
